The Haffenreffer Lecture

The series is made possible by a generous grant from The Carolyn B. Haffenreffer Fund. The lecture series involves various major lecturers by practitioners and theorists and have made possible symposia such as the Reality Check symposium, the Water Symposium and the Emerging Voices Discussion series. The Reality Check Symposium connects recent alumni with current students regarding portfolio review and general life after RISD. The Emerging Voices Lecture Series brings in a group of active practitioners to the studio setting during one week where issues and points of view in landscape architecture are discussed through student design work.

Margaret McAvin Memorial Lecture in Landscape Architecture

Margaret McAvin (1946 - 1999) was appointed jointly to the faculties of Landscape Architecture and Architecture at RISD in 1981. During the following two decades, her inclusive interests, creativity, intellectual rigor, and dedication to teaching contributed immeasurably to RISD, the Division of Architectural Studies, and Department of Landscape Architecture.

The Margaret McAvin Memorial Lecture in Landscape Architecture is an annual presentation by a lecturer selected by the Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture in consultation with the students and faculty of the department. Lectures will pertain to landscape architecture with an emphasis on cross-disciplinary issues and the development of mutually informing relationships between theory and practice.
